Bacteriostatic water (BAC water) is sterile water containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a bacteriostatic preservative. This preservative inhibits bacterial growth, allowing the same vial to be used for multiple withdrawals over a 28-day period — unlike sterile water for injection, which must be discarded after a single use.
Why Bacteriostatic Water
Lyophilized (freeze-dried) peptides require reconstitution with an appropriate solvent before use in research applications. Bacteriostatic water is the standard choice because the benzyl alcohol preservative maintains sterility across multiple needle punctures, which is essential for multi-dose research protocols.
